The series lasted for 4 seasons, dubbed into at least 6 languages and shown in over 20 countries world-wide. Potter admitted during a public appearance at Magnum Opus Con in 1995 that he preferred the first season, with it's focus on solving police-related and father-son problems, rather than the later philosophical/metaphysical-oriented episodes where Peter Caine is often puzzled by what's going on. "Anyone can do that kind of acting," he stated. He admitted having Peter Caine acting like Charlie Chan's "number one son" is "...not very challenging. 'Hey, pop, how'd we get to Shamballa?'" At one point during the series run, Potter's father-in-law returned to his hometown, a small Hungarian community, where he got to watch his famous son-in-law, dubbed, via satellite dish. Everyone in the village knew Chris Potter! As Colleen Loucks notes, "The thing about Chris Potter is men like him, women like him, kids like him, grandmas like him, even the boyfriends of girls who like him like him. Even in Europe, with someone else looping, he still crosses over into their lives in the parts that he plays." |
