The Tale of The Tape Measure

or

The Numbers Speak for Themselves

Thanks to WLS, I love looking at the numbers for the first time!Every month, on the anniversary of my WLS, Kari and I enjoy our own special WLS post-op ritual -- carefully measuring the changed circumferences of 12 different parts of my body. Five months after surgery, and having lost more than 100 pounds, here's the tale told by the tape. I'm happy to let the numbers speak for themselves:

  1. My head: -1 inch
  2. My neck: -4.5 inches
  3. My upper arm: -6.5 inches
  4. My lower arm: -1.5 inches
  5. My upper chest: -4 inches
  6. My chest, below my breasts: -8 inches
  7. My waist: -13.5 inches
  8. My hips: -9.5 inches
  9. My upper thighs: -6.25 inches
  10. My calves: -1.25 inches
  11. Above my knee: -3 inches
  12. My ankles: - 1.5 inches
  13. Total inches lost to date: 59.5 inches (almost five feet)

For most of my life, getting measured ranked right up there with getting weighed and shopping for extra-sized clothes as three of my least favorite life activities. It's wonderful to see how WLS has transformed them all into treasured and joyful rituals!
